Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups brewed hot coffee (I prefer espresso, but any base will work)
  • 2 cups hot milk (frothed)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 star anise
  • tsp nutmeg
  • tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • First, brew your coffee of choice. In my case I had a dark roast espresso as a base - but you can use any type. Regular drip coffee also tastes wonderful!
If you are using a drip - add a star of anise to the filter with the coffee.
If you are using an espresso machine - add star of anise to the cup below.
  • In meantime, heat up your milk (microwaved for 1 minute roughly) or over a saucepan just until the first bubbles appear. Take off heat.
  • Once your coffee is done, add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
  • Froth your milk - usually about 30-45 seconds, if done in smaller batches.
  • Pour coffee into 4 cups.
  • Pour frothed milk into each cup, leaving about 0.5" clearance. Then split the foam last between all cups.
  • Shave your nutmeg on top of each drink, and sprinkle the cinnamon.
  • Enjoy!
