There’s no better time of year to enjoy a delicious cup of apple cider than in the Fall! This recipe takes no skill, simply combine ingredients in a saucepan and simmer – and voila! You have yourself a perfect, spiced, cozy, fall drink!
This can be made in individual portions, or can be poured into a crockpot and kept on low heat for hours. The longer the cinnamon and anise simmer, the more you can taste the spices in the drink.

I don’t recommend using ground cinnamon, because not everyone likes the floating bits in the cider. Using sticks prevents excess bits, and is perfect for garnishing!

Perfect for Parties or Casual Drinks
An easy way to make this a perfect party drink is simply to add spiced rum! Any brand works, Kraken, Goslings, Belvedere, etc. As long as it’s dark rum, it will mix beautifully with the cider. I generally don’t add too much, just 3/4 of a cup for every 10 cups (or a splash to a single drink) works perfectly.

Garnishing is easy, you can slice an apple, add a cinnamon stick or an anise star, and it looks super fancy, despite how extremely easy this is to make.
3 Ingredient Mulled Apple Cider
Ingredients
- 10 cups apple cider
- 3 sticks cinnamon
- 3-4 star anise
- ½ tsp cloves optional
- ¾ cup rum optional
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes.
- For a deeper cinnamon flavor, continue simmering on low for 30+ minutes.
The Apple Cider
My only real recommendation is to buy a good quality cider. There are so many cheap, watered down, or simply not ‘rich’ enough in taste. The best I find are usually found at places like The Apple Factory, or Chudleigh’s Farms.
