Cheap & Easy | Dollar Store Easter Bunnies DIY

April 2, 2021

Just look at em! Aren’t these the cutest little Easter bunnies you’ve ever seen? But wait, the best part is they cost less than $5 to make 2! They look like they were a Pottery Barn snag, or at the very least a Homesense buy!

I got the idea years ago to spray paint some owls and use as book ends for our home office, and when I saw these in the garden section of my local dollar store, my heart skipped a beat at the chance of making a super cute DIY again!

For this DIY I went extra cheap and used acrylic paint and a clear, satin sealing spray. I wanted to stay true to a frugal DIY. However, I find that results turn out even nicer with a glossy spray paint. No matter which one you choose, both will look great!

For painting with acrylic there really is no need for instructions. Simply paint in layers and poke at the crevices with a wide brush, and you’re done! Seal with clear spray paint and voila!

As for the glossy white paint, I recommend starting with the base as you spray on layers, the sooner you cover the base and let it set, the sooner you can prop up the bunny into sitting position. That way you can get all the crevices while spraying!

All you need is a can of Glossy White spray paint! I always use Rust-oleum from Home Depot (only $8 there). But you can also get it on Amazon, here! and that’s it!

Both looks turn out great, however, I think I’ll go over these with white glossy paint to give it more of that ‘expensive’ finish.

If you’re curious how I made the eggs and where I got the wheelbarrow check out my post here! There’s just something so adorable about a couple bunnies sitting by a wheelbarrow of eggs, and a lovely milk jug of tulips.

Either way I love how they turned out! These Easter Bunnies are such a sweet and subtle Spring/Easter decoration. While I don’t love my dining room furniture (soon enough I’ll replace that too), I just love looking at the display on it now. The white glossy spray paint makes the dollar store items look so sophisticated!
