How to Decorate Your Home Like Ralph Lauren (Without Owning a Horse or a Mansion)

July 23, 2025

Bring a little Hamptons-meets-hunting-lodge glam into your space, but without a hedge fund.

Look, we can’t all afford to live in a sprawling Ralph Lauren estate with a team of decorators, a fireplace in every room, and a horse named Wellington. But can we fake it? Oh absolutely.

If your dream aesthetic is somewhere between East Coast prep, English countryside, and cowboy chic, you’re in the right place. Let’s talk about how to get that Ralph Lauren home vibe: cozy, classy, and a little bit bougie (in the best way).

1. Build Your Look Around a Moody-Neutral Palette

Think creams, navy, tobacco, oxblood, and that perfect camel that looks expensive no matter what.

Ralph doesn’t do neon. Or millennial pink. Or whatever trendy colour is hot on TikTok this week. The palette here is timeless, grown-up, and smells faintly of vintage cigars and old books. Start with warm whites or deep navy walls, and layer in cozy tones like chocolate leather, plaid wool, and brushed brass.

Pro tip: If it looks like it belongs in a fancy ski lodge or an old-money study, you’re on the right track.

2. Play With Textures Like You Mean It

Velvet, tweed, leather, cashmere – mix it all up like a fashion week outfit. But don’t get caught up in too many patterns. The key here is old-money-vibes. Ask yourself, would grandpa wear this material? No, then it’s a pass.

Ralph Lauren interiors are like a perfectly layered outfit: a little rugged, a little refined, and totally effortless (even though it’s not). A leather club chair? Yes. A plaid wool throw? Obviously. Velvet cushions with gold piping? You didn’t come here to be subtle.

Style challenge: Try mixing masculine and feminine textures – like a moody velvet sofa with delicate crystal lamps.

3. Add a Touch of Equestrian Energy

Even if the closest you’ve been to a stable is the Ralph Lauren store at the mall.

Snaffle bits, riding boots, old horse paintings – this is where you really commit. A vintage polo mallet? Hang it on the wall. Framed black-and-white horse photography? Slap that above your console table and call it art. It’s all about giving off, I just came back from a fox hunt, darling! (minus the mud).

Shortcut: Hunt for equestrian prints at thrift stores or estate sales. Instant Ralph energy for under $20.

4. Light It Like a Gentleman’s Club

If your lighting doesn’t make you feel like you’re about to pour a Scotch, we need to talk.

Skip the overhead lights and go for lamps with pleated shades, sconces with antique brass finishes, and dimmers everywhere. You want that moody, flattering glow that makes everyone look like they belong in a magazine.

Mood booster: Candles. Always candles. Bonus points if they smell like tobacco, cedar, or “old library.”

5. Finish With Curated Chaos

Books, vintage finds, trays of barware – it should feel intentional, but lived in.

A Ralph Lauren room never looks like it just came out of a showroom. It’s full of collected pieces -leather-bound books, silver trays, antique maps, family portraits (even if the “family” is just stylish strangers in black-and-white photos). It’s glam, but it’s not sterile.

Hot tip: Add a stack of books on every surface and pretend you’ve read them. Instant credibility.

Final Word: Confidence Is the Best Decor

Don’t stress over perfection. Ralph Lauren style is about mixing elegance with ease – like wearing a tuxedo jacket with jeans. Decorate like you mean it, trust your eye, and remember: a little attitude goes a long way. If you do buy, buy fewer pieces with better quality. Hit up those thrift stores and see what someone’s rich grandma left behind! It doesn’t need to cost a fortune and crystal is always on the shelf at Value Village!

Now go light a candle, pour yourself a glass of something smoky, and admire your new home. You’ve earned it, darling!
