2 Cute Ways to Style a Valentine’s Day Tiered Tray

February 8, 2021

Whether you like a bright pop of red, or a muted neutral, I give you two ways to decorate for Valentine’s Day this year!

Valentine's Day tiered tray inspiration - 2 ways! How to have a bright and festive red spread, and how to put together a neutral and simple one that can last all year round!

I’ve never actually decorated my house with anything Valentine’s themed before, so my first instinct was “heck, why not?!” and slap red on everything. I ended up with red pillows, red hearts on the walls, red tray, red everything! Which very quickly became an oof…

While I absolutely love Valentine’s day (it’s one of my first memories of moving to Canada as a child), I started off with a bang, and ended up deflated from the oversaturation, so I decided to revamp how I styled things in my house.

This tiered tray is a staple in our house for showcasing Christmas, Spring, Halloween, Easter decor and etc. Originally I just used it as a fruit bowl replacement, but I find now it gives me a reason to get creative and just draws the eye for my DIY projects.

The Classic Red

The items are largely from the dollar store! The red heart dish, pink You & Me heart, the string of lights, and the little white (I would assume birdfeeder?) house which I painted white for Christmas are all cheap finds! The adorable French Bulldog mug was 4.99 from Shoppers! The heart mug, I believe is from Indigo a few years back! Overall, it cost very little to make this little arrangement, but within a week (yes, I had this up an entire week lol!) I just couldn’t stand looking at it. The rest of my house was filled with beautiful calm neutrals, and this tray kept screaming LOVE ME to me a little too aggressively!

If I hated this, why am I sharing this, you may ask? Well, if you aren’t a crazy person like me, and actually set this up for a few days AND if you have kids (extra bonus!) it actually is incredibly charming! When I had it up for 2-3 days I didn’t feel bothered by it, but kept looking at it in awe! Now, because as I said, yours truly is a bit of a psycho, I had to change it and I personally LOVE the neutral one way more!

The Neutral Whites

The white decor barely even passes as a Valentine’s Day setup! I feel like it’s subtle enough that it could even be left all year round like this. Alas, I am far too impatient to keep it this way and easily get bored of things, so this won’t last either, but I am in LOVE with the look.

That same pink photo heart thing and the dish I got at the dollar store, I simply painted over with a flat white paint and sealed it with a satin finish spray paint. I’m using the dish as a catch-all if anything, and will likely migrate this to Olive’s room once Valentine’s Day is inevitably taken over by a Spring spread!

The mug is an old Indigo find, the succulent was also the dollar store, the honey pot was a $4.99 find at Homesense, and the wooden beads are from Amazon! The beads actually travel from the tiered tray, to the coffee table tray pretty frequently! You can also easily make your own using wooden beads from Dollarama and some twine! I plan to post a project on this soon!

So there you have it, two super simple ways to decorate a tiered tray, nothing crazy, but perhaps it can give you some inspo for your own Valentine’s Day decor!

Enjoy!
