Better than Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

September 15, 2020

Let me just start with saying that I am 100% okay with admitting I’m basic for the pumpkin spice latte craze. There’s nothing more delicious than a steamy, sweet, decadent PSL to put you in the fall mood. Now, hold onto your seats ladies and gents, because dare I say it? Yes, I believe I made a better than Starbucks PSL right at home.

The perfect pumpkin spice latte, creamy and sweet!

Sweet Nellie, this drink will be the death of me, because even my husband who isn’t huge on lattes was wow’d by this drink. It took multiple taste tests, different variations on ratios, but I give you what I believe is the ultimate pumpkin spice latte – and what makes this so different you might ask? Well, read below because in my opinion it all comes down to ONE secret ingredient.

The instructions are stupid-easy! All you need is to dump all ingredients other than the coffee into a saucepan and simmer for 2 mins, then combine with coffee of your choice and enjoy this stunning, creamy, delicacy!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

A delicious (much better than Starbucks) pumpkin spice latte, to enjoy during fall season! The perfect, creamy, and sweet, milky drink, using one secret ingredient. No blender needed!
Prep Time5 minutes mins
Cook Time2 minutes mins
Total Time7 minutes mins
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 1 ½ cups milk (any fat percentage works, but 2% tastes best)
  • ½ cups hot coffee
  • ⅓ tsp vanilla
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon (save a pinch for garnish)
  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp cardamom seeds (or ground)
  • 1 ½ tsp brown sugar
  • whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine pumpkin puree, milk, vanilla, sugar, and spices. Bring to a slight simmer (2-3 mins).
  • Pour hot coffee into mug, and add the mixture through a strainer (if you don't mind cinnamon and nutmeg floating, feel free to omit the strainer).
  • Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon

Notes

  1. You can use any type of milk (even oat milk, just make sure it’s not sweetened).
  2. Brown sugar works better than white or cane sugar, it adds a molasses-type texture.
  3. You may use coffee or espresso of your choice, just make sure it’s at least warm.
