Finally, I can show off my favourite room in the house! This baby girl nursery post also marks the start of this blog! My husband and I really wanted a bright and happy room with a mix of elegance, but also childlike feel, all while on a budget for our little girl!
Without further ado, welcome to Olivia’s room!
The room and much of the decor in it was intended to be minimal, and to focus on function (but without compromising the look!). I really wanted to incorporate light tones and natural wood into this room, because something about white and raw wood tones just feels so timeless, bright, and elegant.
Gorgeous Prints
As you can see from a lot of the books, prints, and main source of inspiration, all the artwork (and quite a few books) are by the illustrator Sydney Hanson. She has incredible art that is just perfect for a nursery!
The room’s closet is filled with clothes that are either ‘dressy’ or Olive is just too small for. Everything else was set up as a storage space – extra wet wipes, bottles, diaper rash cream, etc.
As I mentioned, I have a slight obsession with Sydney Hanson’s work, so we really went ham on getting a bunch of books illustrated by her. We specifically chose the Mom & Dad stories to have our personalized messages for our daughter in them. Aside from those, I was also hoping to fill the shelves with animal stories just because they are abstract enough to make them inclusive, but also because as a child those were always my favourite stories to go through and imagine woodland creatures living a human-like life.
In another post, I will be going over the actual Nursery Organization. In this one, I just wanted to showcase the items we purchased, but also the inspiration and how we went about picking items for Olivia’s room. Although it’s a baby girl’s nursery, I didn’t want to overload with girly elements.
A Soft Palette
As you can see, the colour palette predominantly stayed white and beige, and the accent colour of coral was a big win for us. I love pink elements, but I really didn’t want a pink nursery. However, it just felt too one-sided for our liking. If we ever are lucky enough to have a little boy, I plan to reuse a bunch of stuff!
I also really wanted to have something distract from the dark wood floors, and we chose this stunning sweater-weave rug from Wayfair. I’ll give hubs full credit on picking this one out!
The knobs were from Home Depot, and boy oh boy…they were a nightmare to screw in, but I think they add such a gorgeous and warm touch to the IKEA Hemnes dresser! Above all, they are adorable!

The real showstopper for the room, may seem small and unassuming, but it’s this little gem. I ordered a rather cheap, wooden mobile from Amazon (see item lists below for specific items), but my mom made these stunning, little felt worm and butterfly (there’s no real reason why these were the ones I picked, other than that they were incredibly cute). In the end what was meant to be a simple and plain mobile turned out to be a cute, little show piece in her room. I truly think, no baby girl nursery (or any nursery for that matter) is complete without a mobile!
Much like the little worm, little sprinkles of felt animals are all over Olivia’s room. Some as curtain tie-backs, others as bookshelf decor.
