Welcome to the Christmas tour Part 1 of 2020! This year I really wanted to stick to the classics of red, white, and gold. Partly because I’ve been collecting pieces with this theme for a few years (and the budget is tight this year)! But also because they add such a gorgeous, warm and inviting feeling to Christmas!
The Christmas Tree
Now, one of the first, most obvious pieces is the tree. Our place is pretty small, so the tree takes up a large chunk of real estate. So, because it’s so large it needed to be the centerpiece of Christmas. This year I was able to snag some of the most stunning finds at Canadian Tire and Michaels that I know I’ll be reusing year after year! The topper, spiky white balls, gold reindeer (only 99 cents!) and the white feather wreaths are all Canadian Tire finds!
I also got an amazing deal on a beautiful set of Enchanted Forest ornaments for just $12.99! They’re shatterproof and came in a pack of 6.
Ornaments
Majority of the ornaments we own are actually from previous years. I love to buy from Canadian Tire, but also from random small shops if we ever found cute ones! It’s one of our Christmas traditions to get an ornament every year to represent something to remember that year by. This year we got a little onesie ornament for Olivia’s birth!

This lovely pillow was a custom-made, local creation by the talented Muskoka Pillow Company. I found it on Etsy, and feel like it just adds that extra special cherry on top to the decor.
The wreaths were a find at Canadian Tire, but I added the frosted look using some Flocking Spray. I added the long red ribbon bow to both wreaths to add some verticality and fill up our wall more.
The cute little blown-glass mug of cocoa was from Terra Greenhouses.

The sign between the wreaths was a simple DIY project where I (without a stencil!) was able to make a farmhouse-styled piece. I simply can’t justify spending $150+ on a sign that cost me less than $20 total to make. The most expensive part was the $8 wood stain; the rest of the items were $6 total for the strips to make the faux frame, and $7 for the actual backing, which is one of those boards used to hold tools, just without the holes.
Another simple yet elegant addition to our home that I plan to reuse year after year is these faux cedar rail greenery pieces. I wanted desperately to do a live greenery set-up, but when I found out they only last 2-3 weeks, and cost upwards of a fortune to actually make I decided that faux is puh-len-ty for this household. Until I can afford $200+ on just the stairs, it’s a dream I will shelf for another few years.
On their own the garlands are a bit plain, but with some snow spray, a few baubles, and a few sticks of winter florals to puff them up a bit, I feel like they look absolutely stunning. Like the wreaths I added the same red ribbon to the ends of the banisters to just finish off the look.
For the past few years I would wrap garland around the staircases, but was really annoyed that the garland would be in the way of the hand rail, so this year (considering I have a baby I am always petrified to go down the stairs with), I decided a delicate little ribbon can do the job, fill the emptiness between the dips, and fit my colour scheme for the house so well!
Lastly, the big splurge this year included these stunning resin gold trees and reindeer from Canadian Tire. These were not cheap, and actually blew most of our budget for Christmas on these guys, but my wonderful husband let me splurge anyway, and I am confident that these pieces will be statement pieces year after year. I don’t spend money easily on decor, but when it comes to long-lasting pieces I am ok with investing into them, especially if their quality is that which can last for a long long time.
